This includes a chef whom Serigo describes as the inspiration element of the artists because he provides them with not only food but with the idea of food as energy. This energy material according to Serigo is transformed into spiritual through the body fire process and this energy then goes into painting. From the enterance hall through to the back studio the walls are lined with paintings by Serigo. The are mainly portraits of foreign legion members or firemen.
The style of Serigo’s work to the untrained eye and unschooled tongue are precise, detailed and realistic. They also evoke a feeling of foreboding, maleness, strength and of being obsserved. The two larger portraits especially give an atmosphere of unease. Serigo defines his style as “mystical monumental realism”. Realistic because his paintings are not abstract but something that can clearly be determined as portraits but mystical because there is always something behing the reality that we see. Something that we feel. Of his large head and sholders portrait Sergio says “when you look at him in reality he is a very kind and gentle person but I kind of transformed him into a warrior.” The portrait does look stern and cold and even slightly frightening.
