His firemen portraits, which are proving popular to most viewers, could win the French Academy portrait award this year. Serigo has previously won the portrait award of the french cabinet and a prize at the New York fire museum but the medal he received for courage and devotion as a fireman is the award of which he is most proud. “It’s more like involving your personal attitude towards life than an artistic award.” He says he was more interested in winning artistic awards 15 years ago then he is now.

 

Serigo has two different coloured eyes and puts this down to some explanation for his becoming an artist. “When I was born my father when he saw me he told that well that boy will be a great painter.” While he does not feel he has yet become a great painter he cannot but deny that he is well on the road to being one “I am about to become but it is a big road yet.
